Roundup of preseason games: Hammers start life after Rice with decisive victory in Perth

With a convincing 6-2 victory over Perth Glory in the opening match of their Australian preseason tour, West Ham made their post-Declan Rice debut.

The 24-year-old former captain Rice has ended his 10-year relationship with the Hammers by signing a £105 million transfer to Arsenal.

At the Optus Stadium, David Moyes’ team responded superbly, with Jarrod Bowen the standout with two goals.

Darryl Lachman’s own goal gave the Irons the lead, while Gianluca Scamacca, Emerson, and Davin Mubama all scored.

The following day, before departing from Australia, they play London rivals Tottenham.

Following that, they play in England against Dagenham and Redbridge before traveling to Rennes and Bayer Leverkusen before their August 12 Premier League debut against Bournemouth.

Newcastle overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat Gateshead 3-2.

Marcus Dinaga and Ste Wearne each scored goals to give the National League team a startling 2-0 advantage at the half.

Elliot Anderson cut the Magpies’ deficit in half during the second half, and then the midfielder set up Allan Saint-Maximin to score the equalizer.

When Jay Turner-Cooke, 19, scored the game-winning goal 10 minutes from time, Eddie Howe’s team made sure they started the preseason on a winning note

Walsall holds the villa.

The first preseason match between Aston Villa and Walsall ended in a 1-1 draw at the Bescot Stadium.

Shortly before halftime, Ollie Watkins scored from the penalty spot to cancel out Danny Johnson’s close-range attempt from the 31st minute.

The Villans failed to generate any clear-cut opportunities in the second half, with the main talking points being the youthful cameos of Tommy O’Reilly and Sebastian Revan.
