Gattuso exits “Mutually” from Valencia
Gennaro Gattuso, Valencia’s head coach, confirmed his departure from the organization on Monday. Valencia made the departure of head coach Gennaro Gattuso official on Monday.
The two parties “have chosen by mutual agreement to end the contractual partnership,” the club stated.
Valencia is 14th in La Liga, one point above the relegation zone after losing 1-0 at Valladolid on Sunday.
Gattuso admitted his guilt for the situation on Sunday, following the loss.
According to Spanish media, Gattuso spoke with the club’s top management on Monday after becoming dissatisfied with the lack of transfer activity by the team.
Gattuso, a defensive midfielder who appeared 73 times for Italy, took the helm of Sion in Switzerland for the first time in 2013.
He coached Napoli from December 2019 to May 2021 after managing his former team AC Milan for two seasons from 2015 to 2017. The Coppa Italia in 2020 will be his lone championship as a manager.
After a disagreement over the team’s transfer policy, he agreed to join Fiorentina in the summer of 2021 but left before his contract could begin.
In June, Gattuso replaced Jose Bordalas as the manager of Valencia, who had guided the team to the Copa del Rey final and a ninth-place finish.
In control when the team resumes training on Tuesday will be longtime coach Voro, who has served as the club’s caretaker or temporary manager six times, according to Valencia.
