House Leader Doguwa is remanded to prison on a five-count charge for the 2023 elections.

Alhassan Ado Doguwa, the majority leader of the House of Representatives, was sentenced to a year in jail after being found guilty of five counts, including culpable homicide, criminal conspiracy, causing great bodily harm, arson, and instigating a riot.

Following his arrest by the Kano State Police Command on Wednesday, Senior Magistrate Ibrahim Mansur Yola remanded him after a court proceeding at the Kano Magistrate Court.

According to reports, the House majority leader was detained while attempting to board an aircraft to Abuja at the Aminu Kano International Airport. The accusations are claimed to be connected to the presidential and National Assembly elections held last Saturday.

After Doguwa and another defendant were arraigned, the state attorney for the prosecution told reporters that more research must be done on the matter before they can provide legal representation for the upcoming delayed hearing.

After presenting the horrible crime done by Alhassan Doguwa on the day of elections, the attorneys for the victims of the crime in Doguwa and the Tudun Wada Federal Constituency are optimistic that justice will be served.

The bail application hearing has been postponed until March 7th.
