JUST IN: Senate moves plenary over government polls

The Senate has rescheduled its plenary meeting for Tuesday, March 21, 2023.

The Red Chamber deferred plenary to Tuesday, March 14, 2023, due to the governorship elections.

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, moved the plenary to March 14 to allow senators running for governorships to participate in campaigning and voting.

“We have to join forces for all of us to engage in the campaigns and elections of governors and state assembly members,” he stated.

A copy of a paper signed by Senate Clerk Chinedu Akubueze, however, indicated a new postponement of the plenary.

“This is to alert the Honorable Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that the resumption of the Senate in Plenary has been rescheduled from Tuesday, March 14, 2023 to Tuesday, March 21, 2023,” a copy of the memo acquired by our correspondent stated.

“With this notice, all distinguished senators are requested to continue sitting in plenary on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at 10 a.m., please.”

According to the DAILYUPDATES, among those running for governorship seats are the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, Senator Aishatu Binani (APC-Adamawa), Sen. Haliru Jika (NNPP-Bauchi), and Sen. Sandy Onor (PDP-Cross River).
