Kano court removes LG chairman, orders rival sworn in

A High Court sitting successful Kano State has removed the president of Kumbotso Local Government Council, Ghali Abdullahi Basaf, from office.

The presiding judge, Abdu Maiwada Abubakar, delivered the judgement connected Tuesday, nullifying the Certificate of Return earlier issued to Basaf.

The tribunal ruled that the certificate was issued successful usurpation of an earlier tribunal order.

The lawsuit was filed by Ali Musa Hardworker against the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Basaf, and the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission.

In its decision, the tribunal directed that Hardworker beryllium sworn successful arsenic the duly elected president of Kumbotso Local Government.

“The Certificate of Return issued to Ghali Abdullahi Basaf is hereby nullified for being successful usurpation of an earlier tribunal order,” the justice ruled.

Justice Abubakar besides ordered KANSIEC to strictly comply with a erstwhile judgement delivered connected October 25, 2024, stressing the request for each parties to respect tribunal decisions.
