The Lagos Third Mainland Bridge will be closed for repairs from midnight on Saturday, October 21, until midnight on Sunday, October 22, according to a statement released by the federal government on Thursday.

In a statement, the Federal Controller of Works for Lagos State, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, stated that the government was prepared to commence extensive bridge rehabilitation, beginning with key section repairs.

According to Kesha, the federal administration wanted the driving public to know that it was presently developing measures to rehabilitate the Third Mainland Bridge completely.
But, she added, “the Ministry would be carrying out palliative works on the most critically failed sections along the Adeniji-bound carriageway on Sunday, October 22, preparatory to the comprehensive repair works, in order to alleviate the pains currently being experienced on the bridge.”
She urged drivers to assist traffic management personnel by following all instructions and obeying diversions to ensure smooth traffic flow.
Nevertheless, throughout the time of the palliative works, drivers are urged to take alternate routes whenever feasible, as the Adeniji-bound portion of the bridge will be closed to traffic from Saturday, October 21, to  October 22, 12 midnight, the spokesperson stated.

Bode Agusto, an economist and former director-general of the Budget Office of the Federation, fell suddenly at the age of 68.

He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Lagos in 1974–1977. In 1981, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria inducted him as a Fellow of the Institute.

On the way to Ghana, a patrol squad from the Nigerian Navy’s ship BEECROFT found and arrested eleven stowaways on board the GWANGZHOU HIGHWAY PANAMA.
The people were apprehended on Tuesday at around 7 p.m. by the Navy Ship BEECROFT patrol crew, according to a statement released on Thursday by H.A. Collins, the Base Information Officer of the Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT.

He added that the ship was instructed to stop inside the Lagos anchorage and that the Western Regional Control Centre (WRCC) was notified right away.

Four stowaways were first taken into custody from the ship’s stern. But evidence from these people indicated that there were more stowaways on board the ship.
The statement stated that “an astounding 7 more stowaways were uncovered within the ship following a comprehensive search, bringing the total to 11 stowaways who were promptly disembarked from the vessel and taken into custody.”

In compliance with established norms, the stowaways have been turned over to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), according to the official.

Adamawa State native Ibrahim Hassan, thirty years old.
21-year-old Solomon Francis is from Ondo State.

37-year-old Samsom Aimy is from Bayelsa State.
27-year-old Ayefuwei Collins from Delta State.
28-year-old Ayo Gula is from Delta State.
23-year-old Jolomi Daniel is from Ondo State.
Two young people from Zamfara State, Abubakar Ibrahim, 19, and Precious Uwalogho, 30, are from Delta State.

Fuel lines have reportedly appeared in certain areas of Lagos as well as a few other places around the nation, according to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.

The NNPC’s retail management stated in a statement on Thursday that the waits are the result of a decreased depot loadout that has been going on for a few days in Apapa, Lagos.

It further stated that the core reason of the backlog has been resolved.

The statement continued, “We assure all Nigerians that there is ample supply with sufficiency of at least 30 days.”

However, the NNPC cautioned drivers from making rash purchases because distribution will return to normal over the course of the following few days.

Following President Bola Tinubu’s announcement at his inauguration in May that gasoline subsidies would no longer be provided, gas station lineups became noticeable.

According to Tinubu, the gasoline subsidy payment is no longer justified and that the 2023 budget did not include any funding for it.

Due to the announcement, there was a shortage of petroleum goods, which caused long lines at gas stations all throughout the nation. In Lagos, the price of a litre of gasoline increased from N184 to almost N500.

A $35,000 prize fund has been promised by Governor Godwin Obaseki for the Edo State International Film Festival.

The governor of Edo pledged to keep assisting the creative sector. In addition, he expressed the state’s desire to challenge Lagos as Africa’s leading creative centre.

Governor Obaseki stated that while the stolen items from Benin do not all need to be returned to their original country, Nigerian ownership of them must be reestablished, even if they are still on show outside.

Prior to the festival later this year, Obaseki also had meetings with Nollywood and creative professionals during the event.
