Northern Elders: There Is No Basis To Question INEC’s Integrity

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will be able to hold free, fair, and credible elections on February 25 and March 11, according to the Northern Elders Forum (NEF).

He added that anyone who has concerns about the deployment of the Bimodal Voter Registration Systems (BVAS) for the elections should voice them and provide proper justification, if they do.

According to Baba-Ahmed, there is no reason to question INEC’s reliability or election-related expertise.

We haven’t seen any indication that people in the North will compromise, be partisan, or support anyone.

“Their procedures have undergone a significant change, and I trust INEC’s leadership. If given the chance, I think they’ll have a very credible election.
There have been recent reports that politicians opposed to the BVAS are attempting to use the legal system to prevent INEC from using the BVAS and INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) in the elections scheduled for next year. However, the electoral body has repeatedly reaffirmed its commitment and determination to use the system for the general elections scheduled for 2023.

The Electoral Act of 2022 makes reference to the BVAS, a technical system that enables voter accreditation through biometrics collection and the uploading of results, among other things.

Many people have hailed it as an improvement over the smartcard reader used in the most recent general elections, which had some positive effects on the nation’s voting system.
