Why I Was Unable To Visit Lagos’s Oba During The Campaign – Obi

The Oba of Lagos, HRH Rilwan Akiolu, was not “readily available” when Peter Obi wanted to visit him during his campaign in the country’s economic center, according to the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate.

Obi remarked on Monday on the special election program The 2023 Verdict on Channels Television, “I did ask that I wanted to visit the Oba whom I view as a father figure.”

When visiting states to campaign, presidential candidates are expected to show respect to top traditional leaders, but controversy surrounds Obi’s inability to meet the Lagos monarch on his visit to the state.

The first-class king allegedly refused to visit him, according to allegations from the former governor of Anambra State, but this was incorrect.

Obi claimed that what occurred in Lagos was not unique because it had also occurred during his anticipated visits to traditional leaders in states where he had run for office. He claimed that while a few monarchs had previously been unavailable to receive him, future dates had been set.

Some even claim that the Oba of Lagos refused to visit them, the speaker continued. It’s not accurate.

The truth is that when we arrived, we wanted to do what we wanted to do: drive to the palace and see the Oba, but we were told that he is not always available and that we should apply and come at another date, which is what we intend to do because he continues to be a highly respected father to me and to the entire nation.
