The Joint Action Committee of Northern Youth Organizations has endorsed Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, for the election scheduled for this Saturday.

They claimed that Atiku, a former vice president as well, was their favored candidate since he had amassed sufficient experience over the years to lead Nigeria.

The 19 Northern States and Abuja-based JACOM, which is made up of over 70 young organizations, said Atiku is the only one of the 18 presidential contenders who has what it takes to reconstruct the nation.

Murtala Abubakar, the convener of JACOM, claimed that only Atiku had created political bridges across Nigeria. He was joined at the press conference by Raphael Makama, the director of communication and public affairs, and other executives.

According to Abubakar, the young people of the area make their choice after gauging the sentiment of other Northern groups, like the Arewa Consultative Forum and the Northern Elders Forum, about the former vice president’s candidacy.

The head of JACOM made a general call for Atiku support, saying that the choice “we are going to make, will make or mar Nigeria if not wisely guided by our choice.”

He stated, “Nigerians would be going to the polls in the coming days to cast their votes in a historic choice. We would all experience a turning point with this election in 2023, but the younger generation in particular. For the choice we are about to make will either make or break Nigeria.

“Atiku is now the front-runner in the race, not just a candidate on the ballot. All things being equal, as guaranteed by the Independent Electoral Commission, none of the 18 presidential candidates who would be up for vote on Saturday, February 25, 2023, can be compared to Atiku.

“No one has participated in politics and sought public office like Atiku. Only Atiku has served as Nigeria’s vice president for the entire eight years.

“Atiku knows Nigeria better than any of them. Like Atiku, no one has erected political ties throughout Nigeria and beyond. Nobody or any organization would be able to teach Atiku how to run Nigeria; he will do it himself.

“Atiku knows, comprehends, and values Nigeria and Nigerians just as much as he knows, comprehends, and values his devoted family. Atiku’s family is Nigeria.

We hereby, on behalf of our members from all the states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), endorse/adopt Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidate for the elections in 2023 and, by God’s providence, the next President of Nigeria to follow President Muhammadu Buhari.

This choice took us this long to reach. We can see President Buhari’s footsteps during this time since he evaluated his accomplishments over the previous seven plus years.

The All Progressives Congress, which is his political party, in particular, is fighting to be his successor, and we prayed for them. Nonetheless, we came to the conclusion that they are not only deserving of the position but also actively working to get control for their own personal gain.

When Atiku is elected and sworn in as president, which Nigerians will do peacefully on Saturday, we assure all Nigerians, especially southerners, that we would hold his legs to the fire and make sure he continues to be the leader we have known him to be. We promise that Atiku won’t leave anyone down. We make this commitment because we want you to hold us accountable for it.
