NSCDC decries rising illegal mining, warns perpetrators to desist

The Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has decried the rising cases of amerciable mining crossed the country, informing perpetrators to desist from acts susceptible of bringing them regret.

Speaking during a sojourn by officials of the United Nations Office connected Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and donor partners from Canada to the NSCDC office on Friday, the commandant of the Mining Marshals Corps, Attah Onoja, who represented the Commandant-General, said amerciable mining had gone beyond an economical offence and present posed superior information challenges requiring coordinated and intelligence-driven responses.

“Illegal mining is nary longer conscionable an economical crime. It has grown into a large nationalist information menace that requires intelligence-driven and coordinated enforcement,” helium said.

He commended the UNODC and the Canadian authorities for supporting the task titled, “Strengthening Nigeria’s Response to Criminal and Terrorist Finance related to Minerals.”

According to him, the concern has strengthened the operational and investigative capableness of officers combating mineral-related crimes crossed the country.
