Osimhen and Lookman from Nigeria Score Goals for Italy’s Soaring Eagles
Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, a Nigerian combo who have been having a strong season in the Italian Serie A, each scored a goal last weekend.
Osimhen scored in the Stadio Armando Maradona Stadium as Napoli defeated Roma 2-1 thanks to a magnificent volley. The victory on Sunday increased Luciano Spalletti’s team’s lead over the competition to 13 points. With 20 games played, they have 53 points.
After 16 Serie A games this season, the Super Eagles player has 14 goals and three assists. The U-17 World Cup champion has one goal in the Copa Italia.
Football coaches and fans alike have praised and compared Osimhen for his remarkable play. Jose Mourinho of Roma is one such.
In a post-game press conference, he added, “And if you ask me to compare him to Drogba, I would say, the level is there but Drogba would never dive.”
Victor will be OK if he can alter that in his game. I’d buy him if I were in a club and had plenty of cash.
Osimhen’s native countryman Lookman had assisted Atalanta in beating Sampdoria 2-0 the day before. In the 57th minute, the former Leicester City forward scored to give his club the victory.
The 25-year-goal old’s league total now stands at 12 goals in 19 appearances during the current campaign. He has so far also provided three assists.
The Super Eagles are the top two scorers in Serie A after the weekend’s round of games.
Even though his countryman won the 2015 U-17 World Cup, Lookman has a message for him.
Osimhen will be caught, he assured The Athletic. “I won’t,” not “I might.”
Osimhen and Lookman’s achievements have had a significant impact on Nigerian football, and Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro hopes they can bring it to the national squad.
The Portuguese noted in an interview with Il Mattino di Napoli that “it’s an outstanding period for Nigerian footballers and knowing you can count on two strikers like them is something incredible.”
“I’m telling you the truth: it makes me feel much better to know you have two strikers like that. feeling good. I now hope they also carry their positive attitude to the national squad. Despite the fact that there are still 16 games left in the current season of Serie A, Osimhen and Lookman are making it appear more likely than ever that an African will finally take home the Capocannoniere (top scorer) award in Italy.
