PDP Crisis: Ortom Debunks Report Of G5 Endorsing Atiku, Says Its Fake News

The rumors that the five disgruntled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors, often known as the G5, had endorsed the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, have been denounced by Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom as untrue and malicious.

According to Daily Updates, the governor denied the rumors, claiming that he and his G-5 counterparts have never decided to collaborate with Atiku.

In a statement released on Tuesday and signed by Terver Akase, Ortom said that the news was false and that the general public should reject it.
He claims that the malicious and misleading report is intended to discredit the G5 Governors who have chosen the route of justice, fairness, and equity.
When Ortom met with the PDP state caucus on Monday, he made it plain that the national leadership of the party had neglected to use its internal conflict resolution system, which had contributed to the crisis that was shaking the party.

His response comes in response to a rumor that the G5 governors have decided to continue with the PDP and back Atiku to win next month’s election that has been spreading on several online forums.
It was learned that Ortom allegedly stated in the report circulating that

“we shall work for the candidates of our party, despite our disagreement with the National Chairman of our party who has refused to follow a basic gentlemen agreement entered into in the benefit of the party.”
Making this sacrifice for Nigerians has come under intense pressure from all sides.

“So we let go because our agitation was never for us as Governors but for all of us, and now that the majority is asking we let go, we have accepted and therefore reaffirm our commitment to ensure victory for all candidates of our party, the PDP, in the upcoming national elections, starting from the presidency to the legislative candidates,” the statement reads.

However, the governor, while reacting to the report, pointed out that “We read a fictitious online report which claimed that the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom and his colleagues in the G-5 have resolved to work for the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to win the 2023 election.

The five governors who have chosen the path of justice, fairness, and equity are the target of the report, which is not only incorrect but also malicious. The authors of the aforementioned study were ostensibly trying in vain to make a quick political point.

The report was unable to provide the location or date of the aforementioned G-5 Governors meeting. The writers’ main goal was to further their own selfish interests by exploiting the PDP’s internal conflict. Governor Ortom and the other G-5 members have not given their support to the aforementioned presidential candidate.

“The Governor made it abundantly clear to the PDP’s expanded state caucus when he met with them yesterday, January 9, 2023, at the Benue Peoples House in Makurdi that the national leadership had neglected to use the party’s internal conflict resolution mechanism, which had contributed to the crisis that was shaking the organization. The Governor stated during the meeting that he would have no choice but to take a position on the issue if the problem is not handled before the elections. However, he said that he wouldn’t impose his choice on party members in the state.
