Juve’s Serie A match against Sampdoria will be played without Paul Pogba due to yet another injury, the Italian club said on Sunday.

Pogba, a midfielder for France, was not named to the team for Sunday’s game after suffering a meniscus injury to his right knee in July. He has been out for virtually the whole season.

Paul Pogba is not participating in the team owing to a muscular injury sustained during this morning’s training session, according to a statement from Juve.

The 29-year-old returned from Manchester United last summer but didn’t make his first appearance until the last week of last month, as a substitute in a derby win over Torino, and then made an appearance off the bench in last Sunday’s loss at Roma.

He initially decided against having surgery after suffering a knee injury during the preseason in an effort to compete in the World Cup in Qatar.

Nonetheless, Pogba didn’t recuperate in time to play for France, who lost their title as world champions in a thrilling final against Argentina, despite later changing his mind.

Massimiliano Allegri benched him for the first leg of Juventus’ Europa League round of 16 match against Freiburg because he was late for a team meeting on Wednesday night.

Angel Di Maria and Federico Chiesa, two forwards who should be recovered in time for Thursday’s trip to Freiburg, are also absent from the game on Sunday.
