Production of electricity on Sunday, drops to 916MW
Production of electricity On Sunday, January 15th, at around 2pm, only two of the approximately 24 power plants were operating, resulting in a decline in electricity generation to 916MW.
The decrease in production, according to The Nation, occurred after 17 power plants produced 3,787.60MW at 1pm on the same day.
The two power plants that were running were Geregu (Gas), which produced 236MW with two units, and Egbin (Steam), which produced 680MW with four units. An Independent System Operator (SO) captioned “List of GenCos and their MW Load @ 14:00hrs on 15/01/2023” provided confirmation of this.
Dr. Joy Ogaji, managing director of the Association of Power Generation Companies (APGC), responded to the development by attributing the dip to grid disturbance.
There was a grid disturbance, she claimed. Ogaji responded that the disruption in the grid was caused by “inadequate payment.”
Ogaji further disclosed that the GenCos are owed more than N1 trillion by the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).
She claims that the unpaid debt is divided into many categories and that it is also a payment for the resources that are made available and yearly tested by NBETs.
