Rashford urges supporters to “trust the process” following Liverpool’s humiliation
Marcus Rashford has urged Manchester United supporters and teammates to believe in the process they are going through and not let Liverpool’s 7-0 Premier League battering of them define their season.
After ending a six-year trophy drought by winning the League Cup last week, United traveled to Merseyside on Sunday full of optimism and talk of a possible quadruple.
Yet the crushing loss at Anfield, which tied their worst-ever loss, ended their tenuous chances of winning the Premier League.
Erik ten Hag, United’s manager, referred to the performance as “unprofessional” after his team let six goals in a dismal second half performance.
Top United scorer Rashford expressed his desire to play again immediately in order to put the outcome behind them.
The 25-year-old said, “I wish we could play a game today to try to put things right. “We are unable to see past the outcome because it is what it is!
We must not let it dictate how our season will be. We need to stick together and have faith in the process.
David de Gea, the goalkeeper, called the outcome “disastrous” and urged the team to move on because they had a Europa League match against Real Betis on Thursday.
This was a dreadful time for us, and the outcomes shouldn’t have occurred, particularly given the trip we are all on, he tweeted.
We have a responsibility to this club and to uphold the badge, but there are plenty of opportunities to look ahead and plenty of games coming up that require our full attention.
Luke Shaw, an English defender, apologized to the club’s supporters for the “unacceptable” and “embarrassing” performance.
In the days following United’s victory against Newcastle in the League Cup final at Wembley, he claimed that he felt that standards had fallen.
This hurts a lot, so we need to rediscover the positive things we were doing previously and do them again, he told MUTV.
“What we did in that second half with blunders is just terrible.
“For a big team to come here, we need to be better,” said the team. “We showed no personality, no spirit.”
“We can’t allow this one result disrupt our entire season,” the 27-year-old continued, “because I think we’re in a really fantastic situation.”
