Romelu Lukaku will rejoin Chelsea this summer, according to Inter president Beppe Marotta.

Romelu Lukaku will return to Chelsea this summer, according to Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta, despite reports that the Belgian striker wants to make his loan to the Italian club permanent.

Even though he was brought back for a club-record £97.5 million, the 29-year-old had a wretched debut season at Stamford Bridge and returned to Inter on loan last summer.

With only 14 appearances so far this season, the Belgian’s loan return to Inter has been plagued by injury.

“Lukaku to stay again in 2019?” It’s too early to make a decision; he will go back to Chelsea, and we’ll see what happens after that,’ Marotta said to Sky. We are aware of Romelu’s intentions and will thus try to negotiate Lukaku’s return to Inter. Lukaku wants to stay at Inter, that much is certain.

It follows the CEO’s apparent implication in a pre-game interview that Lukaku was overweight.

Marotta had stated pre-match to Sky Sport Italia and Amazon Prime Italia that because the player needed to carry 103 kg, he was not yet in top physical condition.

The coach is the finest person to assess how he is progressing and how he should be used, and he is getting there.

The players that come off the bench can be equally as crucial as what I like to term their co-starters because games these days can go close to 100 minutes.

‘Unfortunately, the World Cup, which was in the middle of the first half of the campaign of this aberrant season, presents another issue.

“I can see that World Cup participation affects many players, some feel it more than others, and Lukaku suffered an injury that meant he was basically restricted to a cameo at that event,” said the player.

In the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 match at the San Siro, Lukaku’s team defeated FC Porto 1-0.
