Southern Christian, according to a legislator, ought to lead the Senate.

Akin Alabi, a legislator from Oyo State’s Egbeda/Ona Ara Federal Constituency, has argued that a Southern Christian should become Senate President before the 10th National Assembly’s June inauguration.

A few recently elected senators have already indicated their interest in the job. They are Ahmad Lawan, Godswill Akpabio, Jibrin Barau, Sani Musa, Orji Uzor Kalu, Dave Umahi, and Osita Izunaso.

Alabi anticipates that the next Senate President will be from the South, despite the fact that the All Progressives Congress (APC), the current administration, has not yet assigned zones to the main offices of the future parliament.

Speaking on Tuesday’s Politics Today show on Channels Television, Alabi argued that a Christian should lead the country’s legislature because both the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, and his vice-president, Kashim Shettima, are Muslims.

He remarked, “We realize that factors like ‘he is a Muslim’ were taken into account when the President-Elect was choosing his running mate. In the South, Muslims make up the majority. If he selects a Christian from the North as his running partner, that is a minority group.

We decided to go with a Muslim-Muslim ticket because it might not be a very powerful one. Due to the fact that those who have already signaled are Muslims, that may rule out the top men from the North-West.

“If we are going to disseminate it, a Christian Southerner from the South must receive it. It won’t be South-West, as I said; rather, it will be South-East or South-South,” he said.
