Teenager expelled from school for displaying a poster of Peter Obi

Miss Marvellous Barinaadaa, a junior secondary student at Odomola Secondary School, and her parents received more than they bargained for on Tuesday when the child was expelled for reportedly taping a poster of the Labour Party’s Mr. Peter Obi to her books.
Her mother, who lamented the situation on social media, pleaded on Nigerians to help the family, claiming the daughter was only 10 years old and uninterested in politics.
“This is to alert you all that my daughter, Marvelous Barinaadaa, was ejected from Odomola Secondary School today, March 14, 2023, by the principal, merely because my daughter used Peter Obi’s poster paper to cover her notebook for school,” part of the message seen by our correspondent stated. She had no political knowledge, but since we back Peter Obi and the Labour Party, she was expelled from school without telling her parents.
“Please tell me that the principal’s action was good. Check out the letter the school principal wrote. And then we’ll declare that Nigeria is one.
She added that the family had endured significant hardships as a result of their perceived support for Obi.
“NOT TRUE”
However, the JSS2 student was allegedly expelled for generating a disturbance and a disruption by distributing posters of Obi in the classroom, according to the president of the Odomola Secondary School Old Students Association, OSSOSA, Epe, Apagun Saka Shola.
He stated that the principal’s action was taken to stop the student from bothering other students by disseminating the posters.
I was able to get in touch with the principal, he said. The rumored situation is not accurate.
“All campaigns of any kind have to cease in the classroom, according to a directive. Because some political parties use students in their classroom campaigns.
“The pupil was not suspended or expelled by the principal. She was expelled for speaking and passing around LP posters with her classmates during recess, which caused chaos and disruption in the classroom.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education is once more looking into the matter, the OSSOSA President remarked.
During the time this report was filled out, calls and texts sent to the contact who was supposed to be the principal were neither returned nor acknowledged.

Greece takes action to support the Nigerian film sector

Ioannis Plotas, the ambassador of Greece to Nigeria, has pledged to promote the country’s film and entertainment sector.
At a press conference held yesterday in Abuja to announce the hosting of the second Nollywood Travel Film Festival, which would take place in May in Anthens, Greece, Plotas made the commitment.
The Greek representative noted that the film industry is important in fostering international ties and that the event would improve and further develop the already-existing relationship between Greece and Nigeria.
“For us, the event is a priority, and this film festival will have a significant impact on the cultural connection between the two nations.”
Mykel Parish, the founder of the Nigerian Television Film Festival (NTFF), stated that the festival’s goals are to increase cooperation between the host nation and Nigeria’s screen industry in the areas of film and high-end TV co-production; to establish the Greece-Nigeria Annual Film Week as a useful platform for establishing an MoU on audio-visual co-production between the two countries; and to create a film market that brings together content providers, stakeholders, and investors from both countries.
Additional goals include providing both countries with employment possibilities through cultural interaction, attracting foreign investment, and recognizing and rewarding film industry talent.
The Pan-African Film Development Fund in Nigeria created the Nollywood Travel Film Festival (NTFF) as a project to support and provide a platform for deserving African independent filmmakers to present their work on a worldwide level.
Since 2017, the Toronto, Atlanta, Humburg, Oslo, Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, Lima, London, and Glasgow Nollywood Trace Film Festival has held screenings.
The festival’s main goal is to play Nollywood movies that aren’t generally screened in the diaspora and to open up new business options for the sector.
More than 3,500 filmmakers, fans, distributors, and marketers from around the world attended earlier NTFF events.
Dr. Victor Okhai, president of the Nigerian Directors Guild, stated that the project has shown a strong relationship between Greece and Nigeria and that there is no better time than this.
He continued by pointing out the cultural similarities between Greece and Africa, and he gave his members his word that they would participate in the festival to advance the sector.
In contrast, Anold Jackson of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council asserted that culture is now a concrete concept that can be used to deepen bilateral ties.
“Nollywood is one of the six economic subsectors that we have selected to grow because of our comparative advantage in these fields.
The services sector drives the global economy, which is where the globe is at the moment. Another area Nigeria may capitalize on is entertainment. This will help us gain a lot of traction on the global stage, he claimed.

JAMB will examine 176,408 candidates for the 2023 mock-UTME.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that 176,408 students will be examined in its 2023 mock examination, which is slated to take place on March 30.
Fabian Benjamin, the JAMB’s head of public affairs and protocol, revealed this in a statement yesterday in Abuja.
The board also promised applicants who enrolled for the optional Mock-UTME for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) that their notification slips would be available for printing starting today, according to Benjamin.
“All candidates for the Mock-UTME should go to https://www.jamb.gov.ng and, after entering their registration numbers, click on 2023 Mock-UTME on the menu button to print their slips.
“Only candidates who expressed interest in taking the mock exam are subject to this directive.
To make it easier for candidates to identify their centers before the exam, the notification slip will provide the candidates’ registration number, venue, date, and time of the examination.
For biometric verification, candidates are advised to arrive at their centers one hour prior to the exam, he added.
Benjamin stated that the board had also reaffirmed that the exam’s scheduled start time was sacred and that there would be no tolerance for cheating.
He warned candidates against bringing forbidden goods including watches, calculators, flash drives, and phones into the testing rooms.
They are also cautioned not to use ‘laale’ to make elaborate designs or paintings on their hands because this could cause unneeded interference with the whorls of their fingers and prevent accurate biometric verification, the man added.
