The Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, has received praise from President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for how the general elections of 2023 were handled.

This decision was made by Tinubu on Wednesday during his victory speech, just moments after being named the winner of the 2023 presidential election.

I want to applaud INEC for a credible election,” he remarked. We consider the election as credible and the international observers also recognised the credibility of the election.

“With this election, we as Nigerians have established the largest democracy, and we must be proud of that,” he continued.

Recall that Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been proclaimed the winner of the 2023 presidential election by INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

The announcement was made by the INEC chairman on Wednesday in Abuja at the National Collation Center.

Tinubu prevailed over the other 17 candidates that ran for office. He received the highest number of votes (8,794,726) overall, which satisfied the first constitutional condition to be proclaimed the victor.

In addition, he received more than 25% of the votes cast in 30 states, which is more than the constitutionally needed 25%.

Atiku Abubakar of the PDP finished in a tie for second place in the election, according to INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, who made the announcement of the final results early on Wednesday in Abuja.

In the election, Atiku received 6,984,520 votes overall.

With a total of 6,101,533 votes, Peter Obi of the Labour Party came in third, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the NNPP came in fourth with 1,496,687 votes.

Only the top four candidates were successful in winning at least one state for the presidency. While Mr. Kwankwaso only won in Kano, Messrs. Tinubu, Atiku, and Obi won in 12 states each.

The majority of states need not be won, nevertheless, in order for a candidate to be named the victor.

In the meantime, Tinubu has urged his rivals to avoid using violence and suggested that they go to court to file a complaint.

This was revealed by Tinubu in a statement released on Wednesday, shortly after being named the winner of the 2023 presidential election.

He declared that he offers a hand of friendship to all of the presidential contenders and has the utmost regard for them.
