Two children have died in the disastrous flood that devastated the Kafanchan in the Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, destroying farmlands and uprooting hundreds of residents.

The tragedy happened after the area saw a period of intense rainfall a few days prior, according to Christy Usman, the vice chairman of Jema’a Local Government Area.

He claims that the Kaduna State Flood Assessment Committee, headed by Sani Kila, the governor’s chief of staff, has been to the area to evaluate the effects of floods in the southern portion of the state.

In order to prevent flooding during the rainy season, the governor’s chief of staff cautioned the populace against developing alongside waterways and carelessly disposing of trash on drainage systems.

One of the states expected to experience flooding is Kaduna, which is in the North-West zone. Sabon Gari, Zaria, Kaduna North, and Jema’a local government areas have already seen water, while other areas are under red alert.

Residents in several Kaduna North localities are forced to utilize wooden canoes to get to their communities as a result of the rising water level covering roadways in those communities.

The Kaduna State Assessment Committee on floods went to some of the impacted communities to evaluate the damage caused by the flood, offer assistance, and educate the public about environmental safety precautions that may be taken to lessen future floods.

The group also went to Kafanchan, a local government district in Jema, where two kids perished a few days earlier from severe flooding. Farmlands in the wards of Jagindi, Atuku, Aso, and Bade were also impacted by the water.

A fallen bridge in Sanga local government cut off five towns, and strong rains caused some houses to collapse.

The Kaduna State Government is pleading with the federal government to assist those who have already been affected by the flood disaster and to supplement the state’s efforts with additional relief materials, even though the assessment committee is expected to present its findings and recommendations to Governor Uba Sani at the conclusion of the assessment tour.
