Police detain guys who stole firearms and ransacked Kano Court as part of the Bad Governance Protest.
Two men have been taken into custody by the Kano State Police Command after they broke into the state high court, stole firearms that were found belonging to suspected criminals, and vandalized offices in the pretense of a hunger strike.
The accused have been charged, according to command spokesperson SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who made this announcement in a statement on Monday, August 5, 2024.
In the meantime, the judiciary has started an investigation to find the vandals and put them to justice, according to a statement made on Sunday by Baba Ibrahim, the spokesperson for the Kano State High Court.
Ibrahim claimed that on Thursday, August 1, they broke into the state high court’s headquarters, vandalized offices, and took guns and cash that had been taken from kidnappers and retained as evidence in ongoing legal proceedings.
He said, “Private and official vehicles parked on the court’s premises were destroyed, and some were vandalized by the protest.”
“Offices were vandalized, including those of the Chief Judge and other court justices. The demonstrators dispersed everything across the facilities and destroyed both new and old case files.
Looted items included firearms that were kept in the court store.
“The Kano State Judiciary has never seen an occurrence like this before. Additionally, cars parked on the court’s property were plundered and vandalized.
