Teenager from Osun claims her priest stepfather impregnated her when she was 13 years and took her for abortion

A 16-year-old Osogbo, Osun State resident has accused her stepfather, a clergyman only known as Femi, of having impregnated her when she was 13 years old.

In an attempt to find a different form of resolution, the victim brought the matter to the attention of the World Institute for Peace (WIP), a non-governmental organization.

In an affidavit, she stated—sworn to at the Osun State Ministry of Justice—that she had an abortion following her stepfather’s induction of her into a pregnancy.

The girl disclosed to the NGO representatives that she had been subjected to abuse by her stepfather for around four years prior to reporting the issue to her teacher at school.

At a WIP-organized meeting for alternative dispute resolution, the victim disclosed that Femi began “having sex with me since I was 12 years old.” I became pregnant when I was thirteen, and he drove me to a hospital so I could have an abortion.

“He wanted me to tell the doctor a false story about how my classmate got me pregnant and fled. He engaged in conversation with me for the first time on my mother’s bed, and he has done so ever since.

Despite the fact that two of my mother’s four children were de@d, I made the decision not to pursue the case in court.

“I don’t want a situation whereby when the children grow up, it would be as if I am the one who sent their father to prison. I decided not to take legal action because of his children who are my younger siblings.”

At the meeting, Femi, who claimed to be a commercial motorcyclist besides being a pastor in a church he established, admitted to committing the crime.

“It is true I slept with her although I don’t remember the number of times I did it with her. I’m a pastor and it was God who told me to sleep with her. God also told me to abort the pregnancy,” he said.

The affidavit, sworn by the mother of the victim on her behalf, read, “My daughter went to the human rights organisation, World Institute for Peace, and reported a case of def!lement and ab0rtion levelled against her stepfather, Femi, early in August 2024.

“That, she (victim) agreed to resolve the dispute through alternative dispute resolution and has engaged in negotiation.

“That the family is not prepared to pursue any case against Mr. Femi at this time.” Because she was the only suggestion on the settlement between the families, which was the reason for her withdrawal.

Lamina Omotoyosi, the NGO’s head, bemoaned the rise in incest cases in the state and advised parents to protect their kids, especially from near family members and relatives.
