Adeleke Expresses Compassion for Ikire Flood Victims and Requests Calm
Senator Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has expressed sympathy to the residents of Ikire for the recent flood calamity that struck the state’s western region.
Governor Adeleke claimed his administration has previously launched prevention efforts and activities, citing the heavy rains as the cause of the unfortunate occurrence in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
He assured those who had been affected by the disaster that the government would do everything in its power to assist them by stating that emergency procedures had been initiated to rescue persons and livelihoods that had been severely harmed by the water.
“It is heartbreaking to learn about the severe harm that the flood has done to Ikire residents’ homes and way of life. The statement says, in part, “The enormity of the damages experienced by our people as a result of the flood calamity is too heavy, especially at a time of economic difficulty as today.
“I want to express my sincere sympathies to everyone who has been impacted in some way on behalf of the State Government. As a government, we support the residents of Ikire during this trying time and reassure them of our dedication to helping them meet the challenges brought on by the incident.
“Our government took flood preventive measures before this tragedy, including widening streams and opening up water channels to ensure free-flow of water to the Avery flooding. We will step up our efforts in this area and make sure to steer clear of the kind of situation that Ikire experienced.
“I’ve already told the environment commissioner to deal with the flooding’s underlying causes in order to prevent it from happening again. We are making every effort to combat floods in the state, so the people of Osun can relax.
Ikire and Osun residents were asked by Governor Adeleke not to fear, as his administration would be deploying all available resources to meet the challenge and protect the residents and their property.
He urged residents of the state to abstain from other practices that can result in floods, such as dumping trash into streams.
