After the US drug price deal, Biden and Harris travel together.
Together with Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, Joe Biden secured a reduction in prescription prices on Thursday, which may reassure American citizens concerned about rising living expenses.
As they were ready for their first trip together since Joe Biden’s shocking decision to withdraw from the presidential race less than a month ago, the 81-year-old president and the 59-year-old vice president announced the agreement.
According to joint comments issued by the White House, the “historic” agreement with drugmakers will lower the cost of ten essential medications for seniors, including those that treat diabetes, heart failure, and blood clots.
According to the remarks, the agreement will save the Medicare federal health insurance program $6 billion and older Americans $1.5 billion in the first year.
Even though Biden came up with the idea for the pact, it seems that he wants to give Harris some credit as she intensifies her campaign against Republican Donald Trump before November’s election.
As she hopes to win over voters who have long been affected by inflation, Harris has already made lowering high costs a central tenet of her election campaign.
The cost of prescription drugs is the highest in the world for US citizens, forcing many to pay for a portion of their medications out of pocket despite already extremely high insurance rates.
At an event in Maryland, the two will celebrate the medication price agreement. This will be their first public appearance together since Biden withdrew from the race after a catastrophic debate with Trump.
In highlighting Harris’s contribution, Biden stated that the post-Covid Inflation Reduction Act’s passage by Congress was made possible by his vice president’s tie-breaking Senate vote.
“President Biden and I will never stop fighting for the health, wellbeing, and financial stability of the American people,” Harris continued in her statement.
“Split apart with Biden”
It happens one day before Harris is scheduled to deliver a speech on Friday outlining her own economic platform and one week before she makes her big debut at the Democratic National Convention.
After the shock of Biden’s exit, the Democratic Party has already been revitalized by the country’s first female Black and South Asian vice president.
Although she has overtaken Trump in the polls and attracted sizable audiences to her events, she has not yet provided specific policy details beyond generalizations.
This entails largely embracing Biden’s current economic platform, which includes his promises to do away with “junk fees” and lower housing expenses.
Additionally, Harris is attempting to distance herself from Biden’s views and establish her own agenda.
Harris wants to “break with Biden on issues on which he’s unpopular,” with rising costs at the top of the list, according to a story published by the news outlet Axios on Wednesday.
Inflation has plagued Biden’s presidency; in spite of generally positive job and growth statistics, many Americans still think poorly of him when it comes to the economic.
On the other hand, a Financial Times and University of Michigan poll found that 42 percent of respondents now trust the vice president more than Trump to manage the economy.
Biden was at 35% before to her taking over, but Trump’s percentage remained the same.
Shortly after the ceremony, Trump will conduct a press conference in an attempt to grab the limelight from them.
The former president of the Republican Party, who escaped an attempted assassination on July 13, has so far found it difficult to handle an unpredictable election campaign following the Democratic Party’s choice of a new nominee.
Trump insulted people personally during his speech on Wednesday, calling Biden “dumb,” Harris a “crazy person,” and Harris’s running mate Tim Walz a “clown.” The speech was supposed to be focused on the economy.
