Alleged $4.5bn fraud: Court admits Emefiele’s statements as exhibits

An Ikeja Special Offences Court on Thursday admitted arsenic grounds extra-judicial statements made by erstwhile Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Governor Godwin Emefiele successful his proceedings for alleged maltreatment of office.

Justice Rahman Oshodi upheld the statements arsenic exhibits, allowing the substantive proceedings to proceed expeditiously.

Oshodi admitted the statements and marked them arsenic Exhibit K31 aft ruling connected their admissibility successful the ongoing trial.

The justice thereafter adjourned the lawsuit until Oct. 6 for continuation of trial.

Emefiele is facing a 19-count complaint of alleged gratification, corrupt demands and maltreatment of office, involving transactions valued astatine 4.5 cardinal dollars and N2.8 billion.

His co-defendant, Henry Omoile, is lasting proceedings connected a three-count complaint of alleged unlawful acceptance of gifts.

The tribunal had fixed July 9 to regularisation connected the admissibility of the statements aft Emefiele’s counsel, Mr Olalekan Ojo (SAN), challenged them.
