Appeal court orders INEC to register LPP within 30 days

The Court of Appeal sitting successful Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to registry the Liberation People’s Party (LPP) arsenic a governmental enactment and contented it a certificate of registration wrong 30 days.

The appellate tribunal overturned an earlier determination of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which had declined the reliefs sought by the governmental association.

In a landmark judgement delivered on Tuesday, a three-member sheet of justices unanimously held that the LPP was deemed duly registered nether Section 75(4) of the Electoral Act, 2022, effectual from December 2025, being 60 days aft the enactment submitted its exertion to INEC.

The panel, comprising Justices Banjoko, Abang, and Oyewunmi, ruled successful favour of the enactment and awarded N5 cardinal successful damages against INEC, successful summation to N500,000 arsenic the outgo of litigation.

The court’s determination followed an entreaty filed by the LPP challenging the judgement of the Federal High Court presided implicit by Justice B.F.M. Nyako.

According to the party, it was among 14 governmental associations prequalified by INEC from a full of 171 applicants seeking registration successful 2025.
