Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 3-1 to win the Spanish Super Cup for the 14th time and for the first time in Xavi’s career (Highlights)

FC Barcelona defeated Real Madrid in the Super Cup Final on Sunday, January 15 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to claim the first trophy of Xavi’s tenure as manager and Barcelona’s 14th Spanish Super Cup victory.

The Catalans were unstoppable tonight, thanks to the electric teenager Gavi, who scored one and set up goals for Robert Lewandowski and Pedri Gonzalez. However, Madrid captain Karim Benzema scored a late consolation goal for the club.

Xavi’s first trophy came 421 days after starting his new job, and it came at the expense of Real Madrid, who finished second in the game.

Prior to the game, Barça had already won the most Super Cups (13), but a Real Madrid victory would have tied the two teams.

With the victory, Barcelona moves two points ahead of Real Madrid in the all-time list, having won the club’s first football title since the Copa del Rey in 2020/21.
