Benue State Government has suspended the Buruku subdivision of the Nigeria Union of Maritime Workers, NUMW, pursuing the vessel mishap connected the River Katsina-Ala that near respective passengers missing.
The authorities besides suspended the relation of the affected stream crossing and ordered the apprehension and detention of the vessel skipper pending the result of investigations into the incident.
The directives were issued aft the Commissioner for Marine and Blue Economy, Denis Iyaghigba, visited the country of the mishap to measure the concern and coordinate ongoing rescue efforts.
The authorities said hunt and rescue operations were inactive underway, with section divers moving alongside applicable agencies to find passengers who remained unaccounted for aft the woody vessel capsized.
“The Ministry has since activated its hunt and rescue processes and is moving with section divers to intensify the hunt and rescue,” the Commissioner said.
Iyaghigba disclosed that an inter-ministerial committee had been constituted to analyse the mishap and found its immediate, distant and underlying causes.
