Ex-DSS officer, Ezeakolam, docked over IPOB membership, terrorism sponsorship

The Department of State Services, DSS, has arraigned 1 of its retired officers, Nwaogu Ihechimere Ezeakolam for allegedly associating himself with the proscribed violent organization, the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB. 

Ezeakolam was connected Thursday August 6, enactment connected proceedings astatine the Federal High Court successful Abuja connected 4 number charges earlier Justice Mohammed Garba Umar.

The charges were filed against him by the Director of the Public Prosecution of the Federation, DPPF, Mr Rotimi Iseoluwa Oyedepo SAN. 

Among others, the erstwhile serviceman was accused of rendering enactment and worldly assistance to IPOB, contrary to and punishable nether Section 13 of Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, 2022.

In addition, helium was accused of joining IPOB, contempt knowing afloat good that it is simply a proscribed organization. 

The  offence, the DSS claimed, is “contrary to and punishable nether Section 25 of Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, 2022.

Furthermore, Ezeakolam was accused of posting connected societal media platforms, messages calculated to induce unsuspecting members of the nationalist to enactment IPOB, an “offence contrary to and punishable nether Section 26 of Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, 2022.”

Also, the retired DSS serviceman was charged with posting messages connected societal media platforms aimed astatine advancing the origin of IPOB.
