President Muhammadu Buhari’s order to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to reintroduce the old N200 note into circulation has been hailed as a positive start by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.

The Speaker, however, argued that the President’s decision falls short of the Supreme Court’s ruling that the old currencies must continue to be accepted as legal tender until a lawsuit brought by state governments challenging the legitimacy of the policy and its application is resolved.

The Federal Government acting in ways that seem to show a wanton disdain for the rule of law, according to Gbajabiamila, is not to the interest of our country, she said in a statement made available to Channels Television on Thursday.

In his opinion, it will be wiser for the government to strictly abide by the court’s directive in this case while the substantive lawsuit is being decided.
