Four in court over alleged assault on police officer at Calabar market

Four persons arrested successful transportation with the alleged battle of a constabulary serviceman astatine Watt Market, Calabar, Cross River State, are to beryllium arraigned successful tribunal on Friday.

The suspects are Emem Asuquo, 40; Aniema Nelson, 40; Idara Bassey Sunday, 28; and Mercy Edet, 44.

The Cross River State Police Command said the 4 men were identified pursuing preliminary probe into the incident.

They were among 60 persons arrested yesterday and screened by the constabulary successful transportation with the disturbance astatine the market.

According to the command, grounds gathered during the probe linked the 4 suspects to the alleged battle connected the constabulary officer.

The suspects are expected to look earlier a tribunal on September 18, 2026, to look the allegations.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, said the bid would let the judicial process to instrumentality its course.
