High fuel costs push Niger farmers toward solar irrigation

Niger State farmers person lamented the rising outgo of petrol, saying it is making it progressively hard to support irrigation pumps moving and pushing them to question cheaper ways of watering their farms arsenic unpredictable rainfall makes dependence connected rain-fed farming riskier.

The farmers raised concerns during a Demand-Supply Linkage, Financing Options Workshop and Field Demonstration connected Solar-Based Irrigation Systems organised by the International Water Management Institute, IWMI, successful Minna.

Some of the farmers stated that the expanding outgo of fuelling irrigation pumps has made farming much expensive.

One of the farmers, Mohammed Musa,  said they request alternatives that would let them to proceed irrigating their farms without spending a important portion of their net connected fuel.
