2023 Election
INEC is not collating Abia Guber results in Abuja.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed as false social media rumors that it would continue collating Abia State Governorship election results in Abuja.
“It’s fake news,” Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner in charge of the Information and Voter Education Committee, responded to inquiries.
INEC postponed further compilation of governorship election results in various portions of Abia and Enugu states on Monday.
According to him, the Commission convened and assessed the conduct of the Governorship and State Assembly elections, which were held across the country on Saturday, March 18, 2023.
“As a result of the discussion, the Commission decided to halt further collation of the Governorship election results in various portions of Abia and Enugu States,” he said.
INEC remembered how its office in Abia State’s Obingwa Local Government Area was stormed by thugs on Sunday, March 19, 2023, and its personnel were held hostage in connection with the collation of results from the Local Government Area. As a result, it promised to thoroughly analyze the area’s results.
“Similarly, reports from Enugu State ask for a review of the Governorship election results from the two unresolved Local Government Areas of Nsukka and Nkanu East.
“Consequently, the Commission now suspends the collation of results in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State and the two outstanding Local Government Areas of Enugu State which are yet to be tallied. Before the process is completed, a review will be conducted.
“We ask for the patience and understanding of voters, parties, and candidates in the impacted states,” the commission concluded.
On Tuesday, rumors circulated that the results had been delivered to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, with unnamed sources claiming that the collation would now take place in the nation’s capital.
