“It is your civic duty to safeguard the Naira,” the tweet continued.

Other forms of currency abuse included spraying, selling, squeezing, and defacing.

This comes just days after the CBN issued a similar warning, stating that it would begin prosecuting naira abusers.

The CBN said in a statement that it is working with security and regulatory agencies to enforce the move.

It quoted Section 21 (3) of the CBN act 2007 (as amended) as saying that “spraying of, dancing or matching on the naira or any note issued by the bank during social occasions or otherwise howsoever shall constitute an abuse and defacing of the naira or such note and shall be punishable under the law by fines or imprisonment or both”.
