Reps summon CBN governor over unpaid pension arrears

The House of Representatives has resolved to summon the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Olayemi Cardoso, implicit alleged breaches of pension agreements and nonaccomplishment to wage outstanding benefits to retired employees of the apex bank.

The solution followed the adoption of a question during plenary connected Tuesday, November 3, 2026, titled, 'Need to analyse the Central Bank of Nigeria for alleged breach of approved pension agreements, non-implementation of harmonization argumentation and exclusion of pensioners from wide pension increases'.

The question was sponsored by the subordinate representing Igabi Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, Hussaini Jallo.

Presenting the motion, Jallo expressed interest implicit alleged violations of agreements guiding pension entitlements and the payment of retired CBN employees.

He said the alleged nonaccomplishment to instrumentality the harmonization argumentation had created disparities successful pension payments and led to the accumulation of unpaid arrears, leaving affected retirees successful fiscal hardship.
