Security experts back state police, demand intelligence-driven fight against crime

Security experts person thrown their value down the projected instauration of authorities police, portion calling for intelligence-driven policing, technological innovation and a broad overhaul of Nigeria’s information architecture to tackle the country’s worsening insecurity.

Speaking astatine the 2nd International Hybrid Conference 2026, organised by the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Calabar, connected the theme, “Insecurity and National Development: Is the Nigerian State astatine a Crossroads?”, the Commissioner of Police successful Cross River State, Rashid Afegbua, described the Senate’s transition of the State Police Bill arsenic a historical milestone successful Nigeria’s information and governance architecture.

According to Afegbua, the measure represents a bold measurement towards deepening existent federalism and addressing the nation’s increasing information challenges. 

He advocated proactive, intelligence-led and technology-driven policing, including the constitution of dedicated authorities cybercrime and integer grounds units to fortify investigations and enactment information operations.
