Elections in 2023: Discontent in Yenagoa about the lack of election materials

Angry teenagers protested the lack of election materials at multiple voting places in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, on Saturday, setting off a tense situation.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was nowhere to be seen as of 4pm at Ward 1 Ofum, Unit 62, Epie 3, according to our correspondent on the ground. This angered many residents, who came out with their Permanent Voter Cards to cast their votes for their preferred presidential and National Assembly candidates.

Also, all of the voting stations in the Amarata, Ovom, and Kpansia regions were impacted.

Some of the locals who spoke with Channels Television bemoaned the fact that despite traveling far from their homes to cast their ballots, they were unable to do so.

Elections have not yet started in many of the wards and polling places in the state capital, even though former President Goodluck Jonathan was able to cast a ballot at polling unit 13 in Otuoke.

Many young people protested and demanded that INEC make sure that voting materials are delivered.

As a result, security forces opened fire on the INEC headquarters to scare away young people who were demanding the supply of materials to exercise their right to vote.
