Juventus rallies to defeat Salernitana in the Cup
Juventus overcame a late deficit to defeat Salernitana and secure a spot in the Italian Cup quarterfinals.
After shoddy defense, Chukwubuikem Ikwuemesi gave the visitors—who are currently bottom of Serie A—a first-minute advantage.
Eleven minutes later, Fabio Miretti pulled the hosts even, and then Andrea Cambiaso gave Juventus the lead.
After an own goal by Dylan Bronn and a goal by Daniele Rugani to make it 3-1, incredible goals from Timothy Weah and Kenan Yildiz made it a rout.
In the Coppa Italia round of eight, Juventus will host Frosinone, who defeated Napoli; Fiorentina will play Bologna; Lazio will play city rivals Roma; and AC Milan will host Atalanta.
“We responded well after conceding a goal so quickly and we put on a good match,” Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri stated.
“This team is improving, but there are still areas that need work. Our constant objective is to get into the next Champions League.”
On Sunday in Serie A, Salernitana, led by Filippo Inzaghi, will host the teams once more.
