An Islamic preacher was detained in Kwara for allegedly abusing a 10-year-old kid.

Folorunsho Olaoti, an Islamic preacher, has been taken into custody on charges of abusing a 10-year-old kid who lived with him in Kwara State.The incident took place in the Ilorin East Local Government Area's Akerebiata neighborhood on Thursday, October 16, 2025. After accusing the youngster of telling his mother that someone had disparaged her, the clergyman allegedly struck him severely. According to sources, the Alfa, a relative of the boy's deceased father, became furious with the child's behavior and severely abused him, inflicting obvious wounds on him.

Antonia Oshiniwe, the secretary of the Kwara State Child Rights Implementation Committee, told Punch on Sunday that she had received a distress call from the victim's uncle and had promptly notified Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps personnel, who had detained the suspect on Friday. "An unnamed source told me about the situation.  I verified the occurrence while I was there and informed civil defense right away," he stated. The suspect will face charges of child abuse in court, but the child has been saved and is now protected by the government. He said, "Parents should learn to keep their children with them and not give them to guardians or clerics who may mistreat or abuse them. "Ayoola Michael, the NSCDC's Kwara State Public Relations Officer, acknowledged the occurrence and stated that the command was giving the case its entire attention. "To ensure justice is served, we have started a thorough investigation, and once the process is complete, our findings will be made public," he stated.  As more legal actions against the suspect progress, the rescued infant is reportedly receiving medical care.
