The former spouse of Britney Spears, Kevin Federline, has been accused of "constant gaslighting" after he made several accusations regarding her connection with their sons in his memoir.

From 2004 to 2007, the pop artist and the former backup dancer were wed.  Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, are their children.

Kevin has made a number of accusations about Britney in the run-up to the publication of his new biography, You Thought You Knew. One of these is that he allegedly saw her sitting and watching their boys sleep while brandishing a knife.

The accusations were denied by a representative, but Britney claimed in a statement posted on social media on Wednesday night that she had "had enough" of Kevin's assertions.

"The constant gaslighting from (my) ex-husband is extremely hurtful and exhausting," she said.  "I've always cried out and begged to live with my boys.  Teenage boy relationships are complicated.  This circumstance has disheartened me, and I have consistently pleaded with them to be a part of my life."

Britney continued by saying that she has had a "lack of respect" from Kevin over the years, and that in the last five years, she has only had four visits from one son and only 45 minutes of time with the other.

"I'm proud too.  I'll notify them when I'm free from now on," the 43-year-old added.

"I will always adore them, and if you truly know me, you won't be influenced by the media about my drinking and mental health.  In actuality, I am a rather intelligent woman who has spent the last five years attempting to lead a private and pious life.  Since I've had enough, I'm speaking up, and any true woman would agree.

The father of six was also criticized by Britney for penning a memoir.

"Trust me, those white lies in that book, they are going straight to the bank and I am the only one who genuinely gets hurt here," she said.
